NEW MUSIC: Mashups
What is a mashup? Urban Dictionary defines it like this:
So, take some different songs, make them work together, and boom! You've got yourself a mashup. Here's some of my favorites - see if you can pick out what songs are being mashed-up!
SeeqPod Music beta - Playable Search
Musical genre. Involves cutting and pasting samples and loops from two or more popular tracks to form a new track, often forming a suprisingly catchy new tune. Not as complex as remixed music. There are a number of bedroom djs who create moderate quality mashups.
The more different the genres of the source tunes, the more effective the mashup.
You downloaded the Run DMC vs Tom Petty mashup? DJBC is an artist, man.

NEW MUSIC: Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem
You'll notice I mentioned these guys on my twitter, but I first discovered them listening to NPR. (Yeah, I'm cool like that. What, you got a problem with NPR??)
This music is really worth a listen. They take sounds and melodies that sound old, and reinvigorate them with contemporary songwriting and performance. Unfortunately, it's hard to find their stuff readily available. Here's one track that I loved - it's off their album "Gambling Eden":
And for more music from Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem:
Free samples of earcandy readily available there. Enjoy!
